The current pandemic is a new and unprecedented event impacting everyone across the lifespan. However, children and youth are particularly at-risk for anxiety because this is a new experience for them and their parents. Although children and youth may have been exposed to other tragic events, COVID-19 is uncharted territory across the globe. It is crucially important to attend to the needs of our children in a healthy and supportive manner in order to help foster their resilience.
In Part II: Building Resilient Coping Strategies, we will review healthy and resilient coping strategies that parents can learn and teach to their children to develop. Crisis can present learning opportunities and teachable moments for everyone and Part 2 will focus on teaching simple but effective ways to cope with the present crisis that can be used to respond to stressful situations in the future.
We have also included a resource document containing helpful online tools to further help caregivers and children.
