During 2016 and 2017, over 130 people died every day from an opioid related drug overdose and over 11.4 million people misused prescription drugs. The misuse of opioids has become a national crisis and a trending topic of discussion within the fields of substance abuse and mental health. This webinar will focus on a deeper understanding of the opioid crisis and how to best work with those who are impacted.
Dr. Surita Rao is an associate professor and director of the Psychiatry Residency Training Program at the UConn School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Rao has been on the faculty at both Yale and Emory Universities, and has been on the UConn School of Medicine faculty since 2008. Her clinical work has focused on addiction psychiatry and she has years of experience working with adults who use opioids and has trained clinicians on best practices with this population.
