Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD is a 12-session, evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to treat PTSD in individual and group settings. CPT directly and profoundly targets PTSD symptoms. Endorsed by the U.S. Departments of Veteran Affairs and Defense, it has been found effective for PTSD related to sexual, combat, and military, as well as other civilian and childhood traumas. As a CBT intervention, it helps clients identify their thoughts and feelings and consider how they view themselves, others, and the world in the wake of trauma.
